Immigrant Welcoming Center Resources

Social Security Administration administers benefits like Retirement, Disability, Survivor, and Family. They also manage Supplemental Security Income (SSI), enroll people in Medicare, and issue Social Security numbers and cards.

IL Department of Healthcare and Family Services is responsible for providing healthcare coverage for adults and children who qualify for Medicaid, and for providing Child Support Services to help ensure that Illinois children receive financial support from both parents. The agency is organized into two major divisions, Medical Programs and Child Support Services. 

IL Department of Human Services administers community health and prevention programs, oversees interactive provider networks that treat persons with developmental disabilities, mental health and substance abuse challenges and provides rehabilitation services. IDHS also aids eligible, low-income individuals and families with essential financial support, locating training and employment opportunities and obtaining child care in addition to other family services.

IL Department of Employment Security is the code department of the Illinois state government that administers state unemployment benefits, runs the employment service and Illinois Job Bank, and publishes labor market information.

IL Department of Labor's primary responsibilities are to protect worker wages, welfare and working conditions by enforcing State labor and employment laws, providing compliance assistance to employers, and increasing public awareness of workplace protection

IL Department on Aging is a state agency that offers programs and services to support and advocate for older adults in Illinois. Their offerings include adult day care, home care, meals on wheels, caregiver support, legal assistance, and transportation. The department helps older adults live independently in their own homes and communities.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services is the federal agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. They are a component of the Department of Homeland Security. Some of the services they provide include: citizenship (include naturalization application), immigration of family members and working in the US such as Issuing employment authorization documents (EAD) and adjudicating petitions for non-immigrant temporary workers (H-1B, O-1, etc.)
